This means that you are in the USA illegally.<\/p><p>ALPS works with some students on a case-by-case basis to help them regain F-1 status and continue their studies.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-38219c68 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"38219c68\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div data-dce-title-color=\"#000000\" class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-614ec8b5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"614ec8b5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Exit \/ Reentry<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6a9aa36f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6a9aa36f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Unless the reason for your termination was out of your control, such as a major sickness, a mistake by your school, or a natural disaster, then we recommend that you use exit \/ reentry (leaving the US and re-entering with a new SEVIS number and ALPS I-20) to re-establish your F-1 visa status. If we decide to accept you, then you will get a new I-20 from ALPS and you can use it to re-enter the US via Mexico or another country.<\/p><p>Exiting and re-entering the United States is an acceptable way to gain new initial status as an F-1 visa student. Students usually do not have any problem doing this, but it is possible that you will try to re-enter the United States and the border official will not allow you to re-enter. In this case, you would need to immediately go back to your home country.<\/p><p><strong>Application Requirements for Reentry:<\/strong><\/p><p>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/alps.edu\/application\/\">Application<\/a> and application fee ($150)<\/p><p>2. Financial document showing a balance of at least $2700 per 4-week session that you plan to study at ALPS<\/p><p>3. A copy of your passport, visa, and <a href=\"https:\/\/i94.cbp.dhs.gov\/I94\/#\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most recent I-94<\/a>.<\/p><p>After you complete all the application requirements, you will be invited to meet with ALPS staff to get your new I-20, pay the SEVIS I-901 fee again, and learn more about the reentry process.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2d1c2f9c elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"2d1c2f9c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div data-dce-title-color=\"#000000\" class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6625de56 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6625de56\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Reinstatement<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1f0976af elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1f0976af\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>If you feel that the circumstances for your going out of status were beyond your control (such as a major illness, a mistake by your school, or a natural disaster), you can attempt to regain F-1 status by applying for reinstatement.<\/p><p>If you are accepted to ALPS, ALPS will issue you an I-20 for reinstatement; <strong>however, this I-20 does not make you here legally.<\/strong> You must send USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) your completed Form I-539 and supporting documents and pay the I-539 filing fee to ask the federal government to re-establish your legal F-1 status in the US.<\/p><p><strong>Important Information about Reinstatement<\/strong><\/p><p>Reinstatement applications can take a very long time to be adjudicated (as much as 6-12 months). While your application is pending, you must study at ALPS. You cannot leave the US and cannot transfer until the government adjudicates your application. If you leave the US during this time, you are abandoning your application.<\/p><p>You can find more detailed information about reinstatement on the <a href=\"https:\/\/studyinthestates.dhs.gov\/2016\/07\/how-should-f-or-m-student-file-reinstatement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study in the States website.<\/a><\/p><p><strong>Applying to ALPS as a Reinstatement Student<\/strong><\/p><p>You will need the following things in order to apply to ALPS as a reinstatement student:<\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/alps.edu\/application\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Application<\/a> to ALPS and application fee ($150)<\/li><li>Photocopy of passport, visa, and most recent entry stamp<\/li><li>Financial document showing a balance of at least $2700 per 4-week session that you plan to study at ALPS<\/li><\/ul><p>After your application to ALPS is complete, you will be invited to meet with ALPS staff to discuss your reinstatement case.
